What Is Governor's School of New Jersey Program?
NJ GSET is a free, intensive residential engineering program at Rutgers University-New Brunswick for high-achieving New Jersey residents completing junior year. The 2026 session ran July 6-31 and is over; the state and Rutgers pages still contain stale “open” or even 2023 application language. No 2027 application or dates are public.
A student cannot apply independently. The high school nominates a limited number based on junior-class size: one through 325 juniors, two for 326-650, and three for 651 or more. Home-schooled New Jersey students are eligible under the state program, but their nomination route must be confirmed. Rutgers generally receives 300-400 nominated applications and admits fewer than 25%.
