What Is GSTEM Summer Research Program?
GSTEM is a competitive, full-time summer research program founded at NYU's Courant Institute to expand mentorship and peer networks for groups historically underrepresented in STEM. Forty current high-school juniors are paired with professors or scientists for five weeks of mentored research after an orientation week. Placements may be at NYU or another institution elsewhere in New York City, and students cannot choose a specific mentor or project. Fridays bring the cohort together for workshops, field trips, and community programming.
GSTEM Summer Research accepts current high-school juniors, not grade 9 students; the separate Spring Data Science course is a different route. The next summer application dates are unannounced. A short recommendation grace period did not extend the student’s application.
