What Is Engineering Summer Academy at Penn?
ESAP is a selective, three-week residential engineering program on Penn's Philadelphia campus. The 2026 session ran July 12-31 and is complete. Students enrolled in one intensive course: Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Computer Graphics, Computer Science, Generative AI for Biological Design, Nanotechnology, or Robotics. Successful completers earned 0.5 Penn Credit Units, typically equivalent to 1.5 semester credits, but transfer—including within Penn—is determined by the receiving school.
For 2026, applicants had to be at least 15 by program start and hold at least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent, with preference for strong math/science and advanced coursework. A complete file included the online application, a school-sent official transcript, and a formatted essay of no more than two pages. Non-native English speakers submitted a qualifying TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo score unless eligible for the English-medium-school waiver.
