What Is MIT Women's Technology Program – Mechanical?
MIT WTP-ME is a rigorous four-week residential program after 11th grade. It introduces mechanical engineering through active-learning classes, labs, group problem solving, hands-on design, a mentored poster project, and a team Rube Goldberg machine capstone. Graduate-student instructors and undergraduate tutors teach the curriculum and live with participants in MIT dorms. The former EECS track has been on hiatus since 2023; the active U.S. four-week offering is Mechanical Engineering.
Applicants must be current 11th graders with a permanent family address in the United States, strong math and science records, little or no previous engineering exposure, and the ability to devote all four weeks. Physics and calculus are not prerequisites. WTP plans to admit up to 20 students; it reported 320 applications for 20 places in 2024. The completed 2026 programme ran June 27-July 25. For 2027, WTP-ME runs June 26-July 24. Student applications open October 16, 2026 and close December 21, 2026, with no cutoff clock or timezone published. Teacher evaluations are preferred by December 23; late forms may be accepted through January 20, 2027 and do not extend the student deadline.
