What Is Paideia High School Essay Contest?

This annual classics writing competition is run by The Paideia Institute, not the Modern Greek Studies Association. The ninth contest, announced January 28, 2026, asked high-school students to write about Metamorphosis: Ovid's poem or episodes, Greek predecessors, later literary or cultural reception, or ancient Greek and Roman understandings of change.

High-school freshmen through graduating seniors could enter. The 2026 essay was limited to 800 words and had to be emailed as a PDF by Monday, February 16, 2026, with the student's first and last name, grade, and email at the top and the required subject line. The public announcement did not impose a U.S.-residency rule, Latin or Greek language prerequisite, teacher nomination, recommendation, interview, or online portal.
