What Is Princeton Laboratory Learning Program?
Princeton University's Laboratory Learning Program places a small number of eligible local New Jersey high-school students into ongoing science or engineering research under close supervision by Princeton faculty and research staff. It is a free, in-person weekday research placement, not a residential camp: projects usually last five to six weeks during regular office hours, with exact dates and workload set by each lab. Princeton provides no housing, transportation, social activities, evening or weekend programming, or virtual option.
The 2026 rules were unusually strict. Applicants had to be U.S. citizens currently in the United States, live locally, attend a nearby New Jersey high school, and be at least 16 by June 15; graduates could apply only if still under 18. Green-card holders, permanent residents, and EAD holders were explicitly excluded. Accepted students had to prove local housing and reliable daily transportation, complete safety training, maintain health insurance, obtain parental consent and school nomination, and submit a two-page research report.
