What Is Project FeederWatch?
Project FeederWatch is a long-running participatory-science survey operated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Birds Canada. Each November 1 through April 30, participants observe birds and optional mammals at a fixed site and submit standardized counts that researchers use to study winter distribution, abundance, disease, behavior and population change across the United States and Canada.
Anyone can participate: children, families, individuals, classrooms, youth groups, nature centers and bird clubs are welcome, with no grade, age or birding-experience requirement. A feeder is not required. A participant chooses a yard, school window, nature-center station or other safe viewing area and can count weekly or only once all winter.
