The **Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO)** is a proof-based mathematics competition in India and the second stage of the country’s official Mathematical Olympiad Programme. It is overseen nationally by the **Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR**, with implementation by designated regional coordinators across states and regions. Students first qualify through a preliminary exam (currently called the **Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad, PRMO**, or its successor) before sitting for the RMO. RMO is typically aimed at talented **high school students (roughly grades 9–12)** with a strong interest in problem-solving in areas such as algebra, number theory, combinatorics, and geometry. The exam is held **in person** at designated centers in each region. Top performers in the RMO are invited to the **Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO)**, and further selections can lead to intensive training camps and ultimately representation of India at the **International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)**. Participation helps students develop deep mathematical reasoning, rigorous proof-writing skills, and exposure to advanced problem-solving beyond the regular school curriculum.
