# Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (RIPYO) are the youth ensemble program of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School in East Providence. Five orchestra levels - Beginning String Ensemble, Intermediate String Ensemble, String Orchestra, Repertory Orchestra, and the advanced Symphony Orchestra - let student musicians move up as they grow, and the school also fields youth wind ensembles, chamber music, jazz, and rock groups under the same roof as the state's professional orchestra. ## What You'll Do - Audition in person for placement in the ensemble that matches your level - Rehearse weekly on Saturday mornings (9:30 am-12:00 pm for most orchestras) at the Music School - Prepare and perform high-quality orchestral repertoire in concerts throughout the season - Advance toward the Symphony Orchestra, the program's most advanced youth orchestra ## Who Should Apply String players from elementary through high school and woodwind, brass, and percussion players at the middle and high school levels; ensembles span middle and high school with younger string tracks. Symphony Orchestra auditions for the 2026-2027 season are scheduled for August 15 and August 22, 2026, and other ensemble auditions are arranged with the ensembles staff. ## Outcomes Members get season-long orchestral training connected to a professional philharmonic, weekly coached rehearsals, and public performance experience that strengthens All-State, honor ensemble, and conservatory applications.
