What Is Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies?
GTCYS operates 11 in-person school-year orchestras for musicians ages 7-18, from beginning strings through pre-professional full orchestra. Students audition annually by video and are placed by current ability rather than choosing a guaranteed ensemble. Weekly evening rehearsals run September through May at east- and west-metro Twin Cities locations, with multiple concerts, Orchestra Hall appearances, retreats, professional sectionals, social activities, mentoring, service, and leadership opportunities.
For 2026-27, annual tuition ranges from $980 to $1,710 by orchestra. The regular audition fee is $45, with a $5 reduced-fee option for families who need it. Sliding-scale tuition assistance considers household income, family size, and special circumstances; sibling and midyear pricing also apply.
