# Scholarships for Military Children The Fisher House Foundation administers the Scholarships for Military Children Program, which awards scholarships annually at each commissary operated by the Defense Commissary Agency worldwide. At least one recipient is selected at every commissary location where qualified applications are received, with additional awards allocated on a prorated basis - so commissaries with larger applicant pools produce more winners. Recent cycles have awarded 500 scholarships of $2,000 each. Because awards are distributed by commissary rather than nationally, the field a given applicant competes against is small. ## What You'll Do - Confirm you hold a valid Uniformed Services Identification card and identify your commissary location - Write the required essay of about 500 words on the year's prompt - Submit a transcript showing a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale - Complete the application yourself - applicants must attest that they personally completed it - before the March deadline ## Who Should Apply Unmarried military dependent children under age 23 whose parent is active duty, Selected Reserve (reserve or guard), retired, or deceased, from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Space Force. Graduating high school seniors and current undergraduates are both eligible. ## Outcomes Recipients receive $2,000 toward tuition at an accredited college or university. The Foundation also runs the Heroes' Legacy Scholarship for children of service members who died or became disabled on active duty, so many military families qualify for more than one Fisher House award.
