# School of American Ballet Summer Course The School of American Ballet, the official academy of New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center, has run its five-week Summer Course since 1938 as the acclaimed introduction to the School's curriculum, faculty, and residential program. Training emphasizes the precision, control, expansiveness, speed, and musicality at the heart of the Balanchine aesthetic; the 2026 course ran June 29 through July 31. ## What You'll Do - Take daily technique and supplementary classes taught by SAB's permanent faculty - Train in the Balanchine style - precision, control, expansiveness, speed, and musicality - Live in the Lincoln Center residence hall with dancers from across the country - Audition for a place at a January tour city near you, or submit a video application ## Who Should Apply Intermediate and advanced ballet students ages 12-18 (no younger than 12 and no older than 18 as of July 31) whose technical advancement is proportionate to their age; twelve-year-olds must already be training on pointe by their audition. Admission is by audition only: SAB holds auditions in cities across the United States during weekends in January ($43 registration), and video applications ($55) are accepted through February 15 for applicants who cannot audition in person. ## Outcomes Summer Course is the primary gateway to SAB's year-round Winter Term, from which New York City Ballet draws most of its dancers. 2026 tuition was $3,870 plus $4,170 room and board; merit-based scholarships are determined at the audition, and limited need-based financial aid is also available.
