# Shared Worlds Shared Worlds is a two-week creative writing camp at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, built around a distinctive premise: instead of only workshopping individual stories, students collaborate in small groups to invent entire fictional worlds - landscapes, species, cultures, politics - and then write fiction set inside them. The 2026 session runs July 19 to August 1 and draws rising 8th through 12th grade students from across the country and abroad. ## What You'll Do - Spend week one world-building in a small team, mapping the geography, lifeforms, and societies of an invented world - Spend week two writing your own fiction set in your group's world - Receive direct feedback from the professional science fiction and fantasy authors who teach and visit the camp - Live on Wofford's campus with fellow teen writers who share your love of speculative fiction ## Who Should Apply Rising 8th-12th graders who love science fiction, fantasy, and imaginative fiction of any kind. There is no competitive application - spots are filled as registrations arrive, and interest in financial aid can be indicated when you apply. Full tuition for 2026 is $2,600, including a $500 deposit that is refundable until a month before camp. ## Outcomes Campers finish with new fiction set in a collaboratively built world, professional evaluation of their writing, and a completion certificate. Shared Worlds' guest-author roster and anthology tradition give young genre writers a rare early connection to the professional speculative fiction community.
