What Is Sister Cities International Youth Leadership?
The Youth Leadership Summit is Sister Cities International's residential citizen-diplomacy program for young people ages 14–18 who are already members, volunteers, or participants in a Sister City Organization. The completed 2026 summit selected 50 students for June 21–27 in Washington, D.C., combining diplomacy and leadership workshops, cultural tours, and a Department of State simulation while participants lived at American University.
The 2026 fee was $1,995 and covered lodging, cultural activities, and transportation within Washington, D.C.; travel to and from the city was separate. Sister Cities International provided no direct aid, though local organizations could offer support. The February 15, 2026 application is closed, and 2027 dates, price, and forms are not yet published. Applicants should first confirm affiliation with a local sister-city organization rather than assume residence in a partner city is sufficient.
