What Is Startup UCLA Social Entrepreneurship Institute?
Startup UCLA's current Social Entrepreneurship Institute is a year-round, 100% online and self-paced pre-college course for students enrolled in grades 10-12. Across 10 modules, students identify a social or environmental challenge, research affected communities, define a mission and solution, compare nonprofit and social-enterprise models, develop a sustainable impact approach and build a final venture pitch. Successful students earn a Startup UCLA Certificate of Completion.
The online course costs $2,000, including online instruction and course materials. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with decisions expected in about three weeks. Applicants need at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and submit a grade-9-to-present transcript, two short required essays and one optional experience response.
