What Is Steppenwolf Young Adult Council?
Steppenwolf's Young Adult Council (YAC) is a free, school-year theatre leadership programme for a cohort of 30 high-school students from across Chicagoland. Members meet in person every Wednesday after school, learn the operations of a professional theatre, attend more than 30 plays across Chicago at no cost, work with artists and Steppenwolf staff, and build a close teen arts community.
Weekly work includes script reading, hands-on theatre workshops, art-making, rehearsal and backstage observation, and discussions with theatre professionals. YAC members also advise Steppenwolf from a teen perspective, curate Teen Takeovers and social content, review scripts for season planning, contribute to study guides, interview artists, and may take separate paid community-engagement or leadership assignments.
