What Is Young Writers & Leaders?
The Telling Room’s Young Writers & Leaders programme selects twenty-six Maine residents in grades 9–12 who were born internationally or are the first U.S.-born generation of their family. The nine-month 2026–27 programme runs from early October through June over thirty weekly sessions, excluding holidays. Applications for that cohort are explicitly closed; separate one-week intensives do not announce the next YWL application.
Participants attend Tuesdays or Thursdays from 3:30–6 p.m. at the new 55 Washington Avenue, Suite 1E, Portland address. Older references to 225 Commercial Street conflict with the current location. Writing workshops, coaching, editing, public readings and publication are described. One-to-one coaching is described as three months in one section and seven weeks in the FAQ; confirm the actual arrangement.
