What Is Terp Young Scholars?
Terp Young Scholars admits academically prepared high-school students as non-degree-seeking University of Maryland Summer Session students. Each participant takes one three-credit UMD course for a letter grade in a campus or 100% online format. The grade and credits become part of the student's official UMD transcript; the course cannot be audited or taken pass/fail. Participation does not guarantee later admission to a UMD degree program.
The completed 2026 program ran July 13-31. Students generally attended about three hours of class and completed about six hours of study each weekday, for roughly 45 hours of course effort per week. Full attendance was mandatory. Campus students normally commuted from home; UMD does not provide general Terp Young Scholars housing, although the site tells families to review the distinct BMGT262 course arrangement separately.
