# Terp Young Scholars Terp Young Scholars is the University of Maryland's three-week academic summer program, run by UMD Extended Studies, in which high school students take a real three-credit university course alongside enrichment on college life. Students choose between the College Park campus experience or a 100% online option with interactive virtual classes - online courses have included offerings from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, the School of Public Health (such as Our Planet, Our Health), and Criminal Justice (CCJS100). The 2026 program runs July 13-31. ## What You'll Do - Enroll in one three-credit UMD course taught by university instructors and earn a real transcript grade - Join interactive virtual classes and activities that introduce academic life at a Big Ten research university - Complete college-level reading, discussion, and assignments over an immersive three weeks - Connect with fellow scholars from around the country in your course cohort ## Who Should Apply High school students rising into grade 10 through graduating grade 12 with strong academic records (a B average or better is expected). Applications open in winter and close in early summer - the 2026 application is now closed, and competitive partial scholarships ran on a February 13-April 1 application window, so plan for a winter application for 2027. ## Outcomes Scholars finish with three transferable University of Maryland credits, a graded university transcript, and a tested sense of college-level pace. The online package fee of $1,420 (campus $1,791) makes TYS one of the more affordable credit-bearing pre-college options, and partial scholarships covering up to 30% are awarded competitively.
