What Is NSPS Trig-Star Competition?
Trig-Star is the National Society of Professional Surveyors' annual high-school mathematics competition based on practical trigonometry used in land surveying. It gives students a concrete application for classroom mathematics, recognizes achievement, and introduces surveying and geospatial careers. Students normally participate through a high school and local surveying sponsor or state surveying society; there is no universal national student application portal.
At Level 1, a local sponsor conducts the competition at a participating high school and one winner is identified for that school. State procedures determine how school winners are compared or advance. At Level 2, an eligible state winner takes the national examination for the national title. The official sponsor report records the contest date, number of participants, winning score, winning time, award, teacher, and student, confirming that performance is measured by both score and time. The public rules page does not publish a universal test length, calculator policy, scoring formula, tie-breaker, contest date, or student deadline; the current packet and local coordinator control.
