# Young Dawgs Program The University of Georgia's Young Dawgs Program is a high school internship program that prepares high-achieving juniors and seniors for college and careers by placing them in unpaid internships across the UGA campus and the surrounding community. Since its start in 2008, the program has hosted more than 1,400 high school participants in over 460 different work sites. There is no tuition cost to participate. ## What You'll Do - Intern with UGA faculty and staff in a placement matched to your area of interest - Complete a minimum of 110 internship hours during your semester in the program - Choose between the Academic School Year Program and the Summer Science Program - Earn high school credit during the school year through the Work-Based Learning Program ## Who Should Apply High school juniors and seniors from public, private, or home schools with a strong academic record — the academic-year program requires a minimum 3.8 GPA. Apply by submitting a cover letter and resume to the program office; applications for fall participants are taken beginning in January, and semester cohorts fill on a rolling basis. ## Outcomes Young Dawgs finish with a semester of documented internship experience at a major public research university, mentorship from UGA faculty and staff supervisors, and a clearer sense of the field they want to pursue after high school.
