What Is Youthcast Media Group Journalism Programs?
Youthcast Media Group is an active nonprofit journalism-training network, not one continuously open boot camp. It trains high-school students from under-resourced communities to report on solutions to health, safety, wealth, housing, climate, gun-violence, and road-safety disparities. YMG reports virtual workshops across 18 states and Washington, D.C., plus in-person classroom partnerships in the D.C. and Northern Virginia region and elsewhere.
Students work with seasoned journalists to research issues, interview community sources, report and edit articles, and create factual multimedia and social-media content. Work that reaches publishable quality may appear on YMG and funder channels or in outside outlets; publication is not guaranteed. YMG says it pays students for completing training and producing publishable content, and its current fundraising page identifies $45-$250 stipends for social-media contributors and workshop participants.
