# Camp Rising Sun Camp Rising Sun is the summer leadership program of the Louis August Jonas Foundation, which has run residential sessions in New York's Hudson Valley since 1930. Every admitted camper attends on a full scholarship: the foundation states that Camp Rising Sun is "a full scholarship program" and that "admitted campers pay no tuition to attend our program." Limited need-based assistance is also available for travel. Campers come from across the United States and from partner regions worldwide, and each session is deliberately built as a small, self-governing community. ## What You'll Do - Live for four weeks in a rustic camp community in Rhinebeck, New York, with peers from many countries - Take part in camper-led project groups, workshops, and evening programs that campers propose and run themselves - Practice public speaking, facilitation, and consensus decision-making in daily community meetings - Contribute to shared work crews, construction projects, and outdoor trips - Join an alumni network that spans decades and continents ## Who Should Apply Applicants must be at least 15 when their session starts and cannot have turned 17 by the end of the session, and must be able to attend the full four-week in-person program. Selection is by written application plus interview; interviews run January through March and decisions go out in March. Regional deadlines vary, so applicants apply through the deadline listed for their region. ## Outcomes Campers leave with concrete facilitation and project-leadership experience, an international peer network, and eligibility to return as a second-year camper or, later, as summer staff.
