# CLYLP Statewide Leadership Conference The Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project has run its Statewide Leadership Conference since 1982, bringing 120 selected California high school students to the campus of California State University, Sacramento for an intensive week of leadership development, college preparation, and civic exposure in the state capital. Selection is competitive and statewide, and the program costs participating families nothing. ## What You'll Do - Live on the Sacramento State campus for a week with a cohort of 120 student leaders from across California - Attend leadership, public-speaking, and identity-development workshops led by CLYLP alumni and community leaders - Learn how state government works through sessions connected to the Capitol and California policymakers - Work through college-preparation and financial-aid programming - Join a statewide alumni network that includes CLYLP's regional institutes in the Bay Area, Central Valley, Inland Empire, and Los Angeles ## Who Should Apply Applicants must "currently be in either 10th (Sophomore) or 11th (Junior) grade. (Freshman and Seniors are ineligible to apply)." Students apply directly through the CLYLP website; the program is designed for California students, with an emphasis on Chicano and Latino youth, and admission is by competitive application rather than school nomination. ## Outcomes "Housing, meals, program materials and transportation to and from the conference are provided at no cost to the participants or their families." Graduates leave with a statewide leadership network, direct exposure to California state government, and access to CLYLP's regional institutes and alumni programming.
