What Is Cornell University Precollege Studies?
Cornell Precollege Studies, formerly promoted as Cornell Summer College, lets qualified high-school students take regular Cornell summer courses for letter-graded university credit. Summer 2026 offered online, Ithaca commuter, and Ithaca residential study in three- and six-week sessions. Courses, workload, meeting patterns, prerequisites, and available formats vary, so applicants must evaluate the individual course listing rather than treating Precollege as one uniform curriculum.
Applicants generally must have completed grade 10. Online students are normally ages 15-19; commuter students ages 16-19 must arrange local housing with a parent, guardian, or responsible adult; residential students are ages 16-18. Students who have graduated from high school may participate if under 18, while incoming Cornell undergraduates are not eligible. Cornell publishes no minimum GPA and no interview, but says students earning about a B+ in rigorous classes are generally prepared.
