What Is The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award?
The Award is a worldwide non-formal education and personal-development framework for young people ages 14-24, available through licensed operators in more than 120 countries. It is individual and non-competitive: participants choose locally available activities and improve through sustained effort rather than competing for rank.
Every level includes Physical Recreation, Skills, Voluntary Service, and an Adventurous Journey. Bronze is for those over 14 and takes at least six months, with a two-day/one-night journey. Silver is for those over 15 and takes at least 12 months as a direct entrant or six months after Bronze, with a three-day/two-night journey. Gold is for those over 16 and takes at least 18 months as a direct entrant or 12 months after Silver, with a four-day/three-night journey plus a Gold Residential Project of at least four nights and five consecutive days.
