What Is Scripps Research REACH High School Summer?

REACH is a highly restricted, paid biomedical-research internship at Scripps Research in La Jolla. For 2026, only students from nine named San Diego County partner schools/programs could apply. Applicants needed to be at least 16, hold a 3.0+ GPA, complete one year each of chemistry and biology, be eligible to work in the United States, and commit to the full program.

The completed 2026 cycle included a mandatory unpaid boot camp June 16-18 and a seven-week, full-time laboratory internship June 22-August 7. Interns worked about 40 hours per week, received a $5,040 stipend, learned experimental design and laboratory methods with scientist mentors, attended seminars and professional-development workshops, and presented at the Summer Intern Symposium.
