What Is Nebraska Math Day?
UNL Math Day combines a statewide individual exam series with an in-person team event. Nebraska students first take the free, one-hour, no-calculator PROBE I multiple-choice exam at their schools September 30-October 1, 2026. The top 50-70 advance to the one-hour written PROBE II at school October 28-29. On November 10, schools may bring students to UNL for a Swiss-system Math Bowl and hands-on challenges; each bowl team plays five rounds.
Registration opens September 1 through the SciMath portal. The PROBE exams are free. Schools entering the bowl pay USD 100, covering lunch for up to four students and two teachers/chaperones, with up to six additional activity-only students at USD 10 each. Current scholarship rules award the top 25 combined PROBE students USD 500-8,000 for UNL, contingent on later enrolling full time and declaring mathematics as a major.
