# Indianapolis Zoo Teen Program The Zoo Teen Program is the Indianapolis Zoo's volunteer program for teenagers who are passionate about animals, conservation, and making a difference. Zoo Teens serve on grounds at the 64-acre zoo, aquarium, and botanical garden in White River State Park, where they help bring the Zoo's conservation mission to life for guests while building real workplace skills alongside staff and fellow teens. ## What You'll Do - Gain hands-on experience volunteering at one of Indianapolis's signature attractions - Expand your knowledge of wildlife and conservation through training and time with Zoo staff - Develop leadership and communication skills by engaging guests of all ages - Serve alongside a cohort of fellow Zoo Teens across the program season ## Who Should Apply The Zoo Teen Program is for teens ages 13-17. The 2026 program is underway, and applications for new students to join the program in 2027 will reopen on October 1, 2026 - interested teens can complete the Zoo's interest form now to be notified when the application opens. Outside the program, the Zoo also offers limited volunteer shifts for ages 16-17 at the fall ZooBoo event. ## Outcomes Zoo Teens finish the season with substantial volunteer service hours, practiced public-facing communication, and a working knowledge of wildlife and conservation topics - experience that stands out for teens aiming at animal science, biology, or environmental careers, and a natural stepping stone to the Zoo's adult volunteer corps.
