What Is Cincinnati Zoo ZooTeens?
ZooTeens is a selective, in-person summer volunteer program for teenagers interested in animals, nature, education, and conservation. Participants interpret habitats for visitors, work with zoo camps, collect community-science data, and build public-speaking, leadership, professional, and animal-knowledge skills. Returning teens may apply separately for limited specializations such as animal care, animal handling/interpretation, enrichment, conservation research, or CREW.
The Summer 2027 application is not open yet. The Zoo says it will run from December 1, 2026 through January 31, 2027, with no published cutoff time, and service begins May 31. First- and second-year participants complete at least 100 hours; third-year and returning participants complete at least 70. Everyone completes a 40-hour camp week, visitor-engagement shifts, and additional events or learning hours.
