What Is Juniper Institute for Young Writers?
UMass Amherst's Juniper programs immerse high-school writers in a literary community through Writing Labs, Craft Sessions, Participant Readings, Writer's Life Talks, Write-ins, mentorship, and revision. The residential Institute adds dorm and dining-hall life, campus programming, one-on-one instructor guidance, and field trips. Juniper Young Writers Online adapts the curriculum to a live virtual week.
The completed 2026 residential program offered two two-week sessions for rising sophomores through graduating seniors. Residential tuition was $5,200; a limited commuter option was $2,330. The online program served rising grades 9-12 and graduating seniors for one week and cost $1,325. All 2026 programs are closed, and 2027 dates, prices, deadlines, and eligibility are not yet posted.
