What Is Minnesota State High School Mathematics League?
MSHSML runs a season-long mathematics competition for eligible U.S. high schools in Minnesota and along its border. The 2026-27 calendar has five two-day meet windows from November 2 through February 23 and a State Tournament on March 15, 2027. Students complete timed individual events in algebra, geometry/trigonometry, and counting/probability/statistics/number theory; eight designated scorers also tackle a collaborative team round. Calculators are prohibited.
Schools submit a Letter of Intent and pay $700 before competing, with possible reduced fees for rosters under five. Participation is not limited to the eight scoring students: a school's roster may be unlimited. Homeschooled students and students whose school has no team may join another team if permitted or register directly for $100 with an adult chaperone. Cumulative scores determine division and section honors and State invitations. Exact registration deadlines, meet times, sites, and current portal availability are not publicly specified and must be confirmed with the League or school coach.
