# San Diego Math Circle The San Diego Math Circle is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that runs its program on the UC San Diego campus in ongoing collaboration with the university. Its stated mission is "reaching the most able and highest achieving mathematics students in the greater San Diego area, and to provide them with instruction and challenges that develop their problem-solving skills." Classes typically meet on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons through the academic year, and SDMC's regular-season program is organized into five ability groups loosely aligned with grade levels. ## What You'll Do - Attend weekend sessions in an ability-matched group taught by instructors and university-affiliated volunteers - Work olympiad-style problems in number theory, combinatorics, geometry, and algebra - Sit the AMC 8, AMC 10/12, and related exams - SDMC operates as an official AMC "Higher Education Site" - Follow the published Master Calendar for the full season of meetings - Take part in a computer science track alongside the mathematics program ## Who Should Apply Students "in one of the grades 5 through 12 as enrolled in school" in the greater San Diego area. Students may join at any grade level, including 11th or 12th. Registration and a liability waiver are required because activity takes place on the UCSD campus, but there is no participation fee: "There is no fee charged to participate in SDMC; however, SDMC is wholly dependent on voluntary donations to support our programs." ## Outcomes SDMC gives San Diego students a free, structured pathway from AMC 8 through olympiad-level problem solving, plus a stable weekend cohort of peers and an official on-campus competition site.
