What Is Museum of Life and Science Summer Camp Youth?
The Museum of Life and Science's Summer Camp Youth Volunteer Program places ages 14-17 alongside camp educators and counselors in Durham and Chapel Hill. Volunteers prepare classrooms, help manage groups of younger children and assist with hands-on science experiments, projects and activities. The role requires prior experience with children and responsibility, teamwork and a genuine interest in science.
In 2026, volunteers worked 7:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on assigned camp days. Students on a traditional school calendar committed at least two full weeks. First-time applicants completed an online application, availability form, two teacher or mentor recommendations and an in-person interview. Returning volunteers received priority, space was limited and selected volunteers attended mandatory May orientation.
