What Is National English Honor Society?
National English Honor Society recognizes high-school achievement in English language arts and supports literacy, service, literary activity and leadership through approved school chapters. NEHS is sponsored and supervised by Sigma Tau Delta. Students do not submit one central national application: a participating school chapter identifies eligible candidates, applies its local selection process, enrolls selected students, collects the one-time national fee and conducts induction.
National minimums generally include one semester at the school, two semesters of English, a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.0 English GPA. Chapters may make these requirements stricter and may consider character, but may not lower the national GPA thresholds. Special bridge provisions exist for ELA Honor Society members.
