What Is The New York Times My List Review Contest?
“My List: A Different Kind of Review Contest” was a free New York Times Learning Network challenge for students ages 13–19 who were enrolled in middle or high school anywhere in the world. Rather than reviewing one item, participants worked alone or with others to group three to five related works of art or culture and explain, in 600 words or fewer, why readers should—or should not—explore them. Eligible subjects included forms of creative expression covered by The Times, such as architecture, art, books, comedy, dance, fashion, film, music, podcasts, restaurants, technology, theater, television, and video games.
The latest published cycle ran January 14 through February 25, 2026, closing at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. That contest and its form are closed. The current official 2026–27 Learning Network contest calendar does not include My List. It instead lists memoir, visual, STEM video, open-letter, podcast, summer-reading, and current-events opportunities. The omission supports treating My List as paused for this school year; it does not prove permanent cancellation.
