What Is Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Partners?
Partners for the Future is a selective, in-person biomedical-research placement for Long Island students entering senior year. A high-school science chair may nominate up to two juniors per school. Semifinalists interview with CSHL scientists; selected students join a laboratory and conduct original research with a scientist mentor for at least 10 hours per week from September through March. Applications are currently closed, and CSHL has not published the next nomination or application deadline.
The 2026 class had 12 students. Placements can span cancer, plant biology and genomics, neuroscience, or quantitative biology and AI. Actual work depends on the lab and may include wet-lab experiments, PCR, gels, imaging, phenotyping, tissue work, computational analysis, literature review, lab meetings, and data interpretation. At the final PFF Symposium, each student gives a ten-minute research talk followed by questions.
