What Is PBS News Student Reporting Labs?
PBS News Student Reporting Labs (SRL) helps young people learn journalism, media literacy, and community storytelling. Its core access model is now free and open through StoryMaker, rather than a rolling application to become one of a small number of formal school labs. Educators use lessons, tutorials, assignments, and reporting prompts in classrooms or after-school programmes; students can explore resources and submit stories through prompt-specific instructions.
SRL producers offer feedback on pitches, scripts, voice-over narration, rough cuts, and final video. Projects may involve local public-media stations, and selected work can be published or broadcast, but national publication is not guaranteed. Individual fellowships, advisory teams, paid productions, and special reporting series have their own eligibility and deadlines.
