# Sarasota Youth Opera Sarasota Youth Opera, a program of Florida's Sarasota Opera, is a national model for opera education and the only program in the United States committed to presenting annual fully staged youth opera productions with professional orchestra, sets, and costumes. Singers ages 8-18 participate at all skill levels, and no one is turned away for inability to pay. ## What You'll Do - Rehearse weekly in the Youth Opera chorus (Mixed Chorus, ages 11-18, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays in the fall) - Perform in the annual fully staged Youth Opera production with professional orchestra, sets, and costumes - Appear as the children's chorus in mainstage operas such as Tosca, La boheme, and Turandot, including special solo roles written for young voices - Sing in community performances and join summer camps and vocal intensives ## Who Should Apply Singers ages 8-18 in the Sarasota region at any level - the program is designed for all abilities, with placement into Prep Chorus (ages 8-10) or Mixed Chorus (ages 11-18). Enrollment for 2026-27 is open through August 30, 2026, with placement auditions by appointment in July and August and rehearsals beginning the week of August 18. ## Outcomes Members get professional-caliber stage experience rare for young singers anywhere - full opera productions, mainstage children's chorus credits with a professional company, and sustained vocal training. Tuition is $250 per semester for Prep Chorus and $325 for Mixed Chorus, with need-based financial aid available through the registration form.
