What Is Sarasota Youth Opera?
Sarasota Youth Opera is a year-round, in-person training and performance program for young singers at the Sarasota Opera House. Students develop voice, musicianship, acting, opera appreciation, ensemble skills, and stagecraft through choruses, community performances, and a fully staged youth opera produced with professional staff, orchestra, sets, and costumes. Separate auditions may arise for children's chorus, solo, or supernumerary roles in professional productions, but enrollment does not guarantee any such role.
Fall 2026 enrollment is open through August 30 for Rachel J. Peters's Rootabaga Country, with public performances November 7 and 8. New singers must complete a placement audition by appointment. Rehearsals began the week of August 18, so a late entrant must immediately confirm whether placement, missed-work recovery, and the performance calendar remain feasible. All rehearsals and performances are at Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Avenue, Sarasota, Florida.
