# Sierra Service Project Summer Weeks of Service Sierra Service Project has run youth home repair camps since 1975. Each summer roughly 1,500 youth and adults from more than 125 groups travel to SSP sites across the western United States for week-long sessions of home repair and community-based projects, working with partner communities so residents can safely age in place. Sessions run between late June and mid-August, and no prior experience with home repair or power tools is required. ## What You'll Do - Repair homes and community buildings alongside a crew: roofing, wheelchair ramps and porches, painting, and general repairs - Serve in rural, Native American, and urban partner communities, learning about each community's history and culture rather than passing through it - Live on site for the week with your session cohort, sharing meals, evening programming, worship, and reflection - Build life skills, tool skills, and cultural humility through SSP's structured service-learning curriculum ## Who Should Apply Youth groups, intergenerational groups, and individual teens. SSP runs grade-banded sessions: incoming 6th through incoming 9th graders attend Middle School, Combined, or Intergenerational sessions, while incoming 9th graders through graduating 12th graders attend High School, Combined, or Intergenerational sessions. Registration is handled through SSP's MySSP portal with a group sign-up fee plus per-person deposits. ## Outcomes Participants finish with completed home repair projects on real homes, hands-on construction skills, and a week of sustained relationship with a partner community. SSP offers substantial scholarships for youth with financial need; scholarship applications open in December, with a February 1 deadline for the first round of awards.
