# Children's Hospital Colorado Junior Volunteer Program Children's Hospital Colorado's Junior Volunteer Program is one of the few structured hospital volunteer programs that opens to students as young as 13. Junior Volunteers are placed in departments across the hospital and at fundraising events, screened and onboarded like any other volunteer, and represented by their own Junior Volunteer Advisory Committee. ## What You'll Do - Serve a standing weekly shift in a hospital department chosen to match the hospital's needs and your interests - Run craft projects and creative play with patients, organize activities for families, and staff hospital events - Support fundraising events so that clinical and administrative staff can focus on care - Apply to the Junior Volunteer Advisory Committee, which represents teens in the program, plans volunteer recognition, and awards the 'Above and Beyond Care' ABC Award ## Who Should Apply Teens ages 13 to 18 in the Denver metro area who can commit to about three hours per week. Both full-year and summer placements are offered. Applicants complete an application, an interview, and a health screening before starting; applications are processed in the order received, so there is no fixed cutoff. ## Outcomes Junior Volunteers earn verified service hours that the hospital will document for scholarship applications, and each year Children's Colorado awards two $2,500 Junior Volunteer Recognition Scholarships - one to a teen volunteer pursuing a medical or allied health degree, and one to a teen who has made outstanding contributions to the hospital.
