What Is Summer Writers Workshop?
Susquehanna University's Summer Writers Workshop is a one-week, in-person residential intensive for experienced writers entering grades 10-12. Students study fiction, poetry or creative nonfiction in daily seminars and small workshops, produce roughly 10-30 new pages, revise with feedback, meet individually with a professor, hear guest writers, take a field trip, read publicly and publish new work in the program anthology.
The completed 2026 session ran July 19-25 and required registration by July 3 plus a 3-5-page creative-writing portfolio. The $1,075 comprehensive fee covered instruction, a single residence-hall room unless otherwise requested, three meals per day, materials and a mailed anthology. Partial scholarships considered financial need and academic performance; no full-tuition scholarships were offered, and need documentation required a counselor letter. The campus health center was unavailable to summer participants, so families should review medical/emergency arrangements and submit the required medical form before arrival.
