What Is Summer Field School in Archaeology (ANT 364)?
The College of New Jersey's ANT 364 Archaeological Field Methods is an intensive two-week field school open to rising high-school juniors and seniors as well as undergraduate and graduate students. After two classroom days on the William Green Plantation Project, historical archaeology, ceramics, and artifact analysis, participants work at the on-campus excavation site and laboratory. They learn surveying, mapping, field walking, photography, excavation and recording, post-excavation analysis, and artifact curation.
The completed 2026 course met Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., from July 27 through August 8. High-school students could participate for experience only at $1,474 or seek one TCNJ unit/four credits through visiting-student registration. The credit-track price was not listed on the field-school page. TCNJ offered no housing, so participants needed to commute or arrange private lodging. No 2027 dates, prices, or registration deadline are posted.
