What Is Tri-M Music Honor Society?
Tri-M is NAfME's student-led school music honor society. Active local chapters recognize grades 6-12 students for music participation/achievement, academics, leadership, service, and character, under written local selection rules. A faculty advisor or faculty committee selects candidates; inducted members can elect officers, run meetings, organize performances and music-based service, advocate for music education, and pursue separate chapter or individual recognitions.
For 2026-27, a school chapter activates or renews for USD 100 and expires June 30, 2027. That is a chapter fee, not a national USD 30 fee charged to every student. Local chapters determine student candidate timing, possible dues, selection details, meeting frequency, service expectations, and induction. Students cannot join nationally without an active/equivalent school chapter and local selection.
