What Is University of Chicago Young Scholars Program?
The summer Young Scholars Program is a selective four-week mathematics day camp for enthusiastic students entering grades 7-12. It aims to deepen mathematical thinking beyond standard school topics rather than accelerate students through the regular curriculum. Students join grade 7-8, 9-10, or 11-12 cohorts for two faculty-led classes, an undergraduate-led small problem-solving group, and lunch/recess. Even-year programs focus on number theory and odd-year programs on geometry.
The 2026 program ran June 29-July 24, weekdays 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with no class July 3. It was in person at the University of Chicago and served Chicago, surrounding suburbs, and Northwest Indiana. Outside-area applicants could attend only if their families arranged local lodging and transportation; the University supplied neither.
