What Is Washington Journalism and Media Conference?
George Mason University's Washington Journalism and Media Conference brings selected high school students to the Fairfax campus as National Youth Correspondents for six days of journalism, media and leadership study. Students live in university residence halls, work in small groups with faculty advisers, complete simulations and hands-on activities, hear from journalists and media leaders, and visit Washington-area institutions. Successful completion earns one pass/fail general elective credit from George Mason; transferability is determined by the receiving institution.
The 2026 sessions ran July 12-17 and July 19-24 and are complete. Students in grade 10 or 11 during 2025-26 were eligible through invitation, educator nomination or a limited direct self-nomination pathway. Tuition was $2,650 including housing, most meals, program transportation, scheduled DCA/IAD shuttles and credit. Need-based partial tuition waivers and named full-tuition awards had a February 16 deadline. The site has not yet published a 2027 cycle.
