# WKU Summer Camp for Academically Talented Students (SCATS) SCATS is a two-week summer enrichment camp at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, operated by WKU's Center for Gifted Studies. Campers who have completed grade 6, 7, or 8 take classes taught by WKU faculty, outstanding area teachers, and educators enrolled in WKU's graduate program in gifted studies. The 2027 camp runs June 6-18, 2027, with residential and nonresidential options. ## What You'll Do - Take enrichment classes on WKU's campus taught by university faculty and experienced teachers of gifted students - Live in an air-conditioned WKU residence hall if you choose the residential option - Join evening and weekend activities with fellow campers - Spend two weeks in a community of academically talented middle schoolers from many schools ## Who Should Apply Students who will complete grade 6, 7, or 8 by the end of the 2026-2027 school year. Applicants must be nominated by a teacher, counselor, or principal and submit an application with a $200 deposit. There is no fixed deadline - applications are accepted in the order received - and the tuition balance is due on or before May 15. ## Outcomes Campers get an early, supported college-campus experience and two weeks of coursework pitched to high-ability middle schoolers. Residential tuition is $2,800 and nonresidential tuition is $1,400; both include all costs except spending money.
