What Is Woodland Park Zoo Teen Ambassador Volunteer?
Woodland Park Zoo's Teen Ambassador program is a summer, in-person conservation and guest-engagement experience in Seattle. The 2026 cohort brought on 15 teens entering grades 10-12. Ambassadors engage young children in Zoomazium, interpret animals and new habitat spaces for visitors, learn about animal care and conservation careers, collect observational data, observe keeper and guest talks, and practice public speaking, leadership and teamwork. No previous volunteer or career experience was required.
The 2026 application closed March 27 at 5 p.m. PST, followed by mid-April interviews and early-May decisions. Participants had to attend the June 26 orientation, at least seven cohort meetings or the celebration, and complete 20 self-scheduled volunteer-shift hours from June 29 through September 6. The next application cycle is not yet announced.
