What Is Health Sciences & Technology Academy (HSTA)?

The Health Sciences & Technology Academy (HSTA) at West Virginia University is a mentoring program that helps West Virginia high school students enter and succeed in STEM and medicine (STEM+M) degree programs. Teachers, community members, university faculty and staff, and HSTA students themselves mentor participants, with a focus on students facing social and financial challenges to finishing high school and going to college.

West Virginia residents and U.S. citizens in 8th grade, working at an eighth-grade level, who attend an approved school in an HSTA county or region, have at least a 2.5 GPA and are interested in health sciences or STEM+M. Applicants do not need to meet every criterion to apply. Applications include a first-semester grade card and are due by each region's deadline; students may be accepted, if slots remain, until October 1 of 9th grade.
