What Is Youth Engaged in Science (YES)?
Case Comprehensive Cancer Center's YES program places Cleveland-area high-school students in real cancer-research laboratories at Case Western Reserve University. The seven-week, in-person summer experience starts with laboratory safety, research techniques, cancer biology, and scientific problem solving, then moves into six weeks of full-time research with Case CCC scientists. Lunch-and-learn sessions add college preparation, career exploration, scientific communication, and professional networking, and students present their work at an end-of-summer celebration.
Applicants must attend a Cleveland-area high school, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and be at least 14 before research activities begin. Students who fully participate and complete the program receive a USD 2,500 stipend. Students from Cleveland Metropolitan School District or East Cleveland City Schools may also be selected for the Scientific Enrichment Opportunity track, which adds one-on-one mentoring, college preparation, advocacy, and enhanced stipend opportunities.
