# Case Youth Engaged in Science Youth Engaged in Science (YES) is a National Cancer Institute-funded summer program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center in Cleveland that pays high school students to do real cancer research. Scholars spend seven full-time weeks embedded in labs with Case CCC scientists at Case Western Reserve University, beginning with a week-one bootcamp in laboratory safety, research techniques, and cancer biology before joining an active research project. ## What You'll Do - Complete a week-long research bootcamp covering lab safety, techniques, and cancer biology - Conduct hands-on cancer research 35 hours per week for the remaining six weeks in a Case CCC lab - Join daily lunch sessions on science, college preparation, and career pathways - Present your research results at the end-of-summer celebration ## Who Should Apply Students who attend a Cleveland-area high school, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and are at least 14 years old when research begins. Applications for Summer 2026 have closed; the published 2027 timeline runs from an application deadline in March 2027 to acceptances in April and the program itself in June-July 2027. Scholars from Cleveland Metropolitan and East Cleveland partner schools can also join the Scientific Enrichment Opportunity track with enhanced stipend and one-on-one college mentoring. ## Outcomes Participants earn a $2,500 stipend for full participation and successful project completion, plus authentic biomedical research experience, a presented project, and mentors at an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.
