What Is YFU USA High School Study Abroad?
YFU USA sends eligible U.S. high-school students to more than 35 destinations for summer, semester, or academic-year cultural exchange. Students live with a screened host family; semester and year participants attend local school; all receive orientation, coordinated travel, a trained local Area Representative, counselling/tutoring access, worldwide emergency assistance, and 24/7/365 YFU support. Programs are immersive and country-specific rather than a single standardized trip.
General applicants are usually 15-18 while abroad, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and need at least a 3.0 GPA for semester/year or 2.0 for summer. Tuition, birth-date windows, language rules, dates, capacity, and deadlines vary. A USD 2,000 non-refundable deposit is normally due after admission unless a full scholarship applies. One current example, Japan Spring Year 2027, is USD 18,195 with a September 15, 2026 deadline. YFU provides more than USD 1.6 million in full/partial awards annually, but every scholarship has separate rules.
